UN Security Council Extends UNAMA Mission In Afghanistan

MEP: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Office of the organization’s mission has extended “UNAMA” in Afghanistan for another year.

UNSC in its meeting last night unanimously agreed to extend the work of UNAMA in Afghanistan for another year.

UNAMA office in Kabul issued a statement saying that the mission in Afghanistan will focus to strengthen the state organs, Law enforcement, prevention of drug cultivation and legal aid. The mission of the 15 members of the UN Security Council has extended for another year.

The Office of United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan was established for the first time in 2002 at the request of the Afghan government by the United Nations Security Council in order to help the government and the Afghan people to establish lasting peace and cooperation on the Afghan government programs.

According to statistics, UNAMA in Afghanistan has about 1,000 employees, nearly 80 percent of these employees are Afghans and by the end of the mission, hundreds of these employees would lose their jobs.
