USAID Pledges $791 Million For Afghanistan’s Health And Education

MEP: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) pledged a fresh assistance of 791 million dollars to support Afghanistan’s health and education sectors.

The aid was signed by (USAID) Director Herbert Smith and Minister of Finance Eklil Hakimi in Presidential Palace (ARG) on Monday.

Hakimi in the signing ceremony, said that the amount of money will be spent in four areas of education and health, higher education, good governance and integrity for four years.

He noted that 337 million dollars of aid to the strategic goals of development, 180 million dollars to support the private sector, $65 million for good governance and the remaining in the sectors of education, higher education and health will be assigned.

According to the Minister of Finance, Government of Afghanistan commits to use this money properly and is ready in part of its accounting.

Hakimi said, this assistance is one of the financial obligations of America in Brussels summit.

Meanwhile, Herbert said this document reaffirms U.S. determination to support the government of Afghanistan in efforts to strengthen Afghanistan’s institutions, maintain gains in education and health services achieved in recent years, and improve the welfare of the Afghan people.
