KABUL: (MEP) – An announced reduction of 50 % in aid from America to Afghanistan has caused people to have concerns about Afghanistan’s economic situation, especially political analysts.
Government officials have said that they have no concerns about the reduction in aid and said that the reduction of aid will not create any serious problems for the government.
Nazir Kabire, advisor to the Minister of Finance said, “Some amount of donated funds by America has remained in the Afghanistan budget from previous years and has carried forward, so the government will have no challenges.”
Mr. Kabire added that according to the Tokyo summit commitment, America is obliged to pay $ 2 billion in aid funds to Afghanistan.
Shah Hussain Murtazaye, a political analyst, said that he believes that if the security accord is not signed, in addition to the current challenges facing the country, the Afghanistan government will be faced with new problems in their finances.
The US government in its budget for this year was asked to fund $ 2.19 billion dollars for development assistance to Afghanistan, but its Congress approved only half of that aid amount.
Political experts consider the primary reason for the reduction in aid to Afghanistan to be Congress’ frustration with Afghanistan’s government not signing the security accord.
