Why Did General Dostum Leave Faryab Battle?

MEP: General Abdul Rashid Dostum, First Vice President about ten days ago to clear the province of Faryab of armed Taliban and to retake the Ghormach district travelled to the province and assumed the leadership of the war.

He started the battle heavily and successfully captured Ghormach district as well as clearing other parts of the province, also was cleared, but all of a sudden left the war and the district.

The [let go of war] by Dostum comes as he planned to visit the provinces of Sar-e-Pul and Kunduz as well and clear the provinces of armed Taliban, but this did not happen and the First Vice-President is currently present in Jawzjan, without thinking about the war.

Now the question is why Gen. Dostum suddenly stopped fighting and has left the field of battle?

Masood Ahmad Masood, person close to General Dostum who also spent days and nights along with Dostum during the battle in an article titled “The tragedy of Ghormach war” has pointed on General Dostum’s reversal reasons.

The reluctance of senior officials and the indifference of the central government security officials, particularly the Ministry of Defence of the leadership of North war by General Dostum is one of the reasons mentioned in this article.

In part of the article states that, “Gen. Dostum led the war with the forces of the Chancellery, special guard, troops Bay, Jawzjan police chief Rahmatullah Turkistani, Border Andkhoy Ali Khan, highway police of Faryab Hanif Bay and other popular uprisings forces.”

A highlight in this article is that Afghan National Army (ANA) under the command of Shaheen Corps commander and brigade Faryab to participate in the war with General Dostum, but during the war they did not appear.

Masood wrote that during the continued war by Dostum in Faryab, not a single attention received from the central government to the province and even pilots of combat aircraft by their authorities for combat duty in the operation, were threatened.

But the main problem from the perspective of the person close to General Dostum, was the absence of security officials in the important meeting after Ghormach recapture that caused resentment for General Dostum.

It is worth mentioning that on Monday, Dostum in the presence of elders, security forces and officials of Jawzjan Province had fierce criticism from leaders of the national unity government and security officials.

This comes as the armed Taliban have occupied several districts in the north of the country and are desperately seeking to expand their influence in the areas.
