19 killed in Taliban attacks in Afghanistan
KABUL: (MEP) – Three attacks occur Tuesday after Taliban vows to use force to disrupt April 5 presidential election.
At least 19 people died Tuesday in three separate attacks by the Taliban in Afghanistan amid presidential elections.
Nine people were killed and eight wounded when five Taliban militants attacked a local polling station in the capital, according to Kabul Security Director Zahir Zahir.
Zahir added that one police officer was killed and four others wounded, and that the militants later died in a five-hour clash with Afghan police.
There were reportedly around 70 people at the station at the time of the attack.
Meanwhile, five people were killed and 14 injured in a suicide bomb attack at a private bank in Kunar province.
Kunar Governor Shuja ul-Mulk Jalala expressed concerns that the death toll may rise as some of the wounded are in critical condition.
Another suicide attack at a stadium in northern Kunduz province claimed five lives and wounded 20 people, Kunduz Security Directorate spokesman Said Server Husayni told AA.
The Taliban have vowed to use force to disrupt the presidential election to be held on April 5, and have declared they will not recognize the election results.
