2 Civilians Killed by IED explosion in Kunar province

KABUL: (MEP) – At least two civilians were killed following a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan.

Local officials in Kunar province said the incident took place early Saturday morning in Chapa Dara ditrict.

Provincial security chief, Abdul Habib Syed Khail confirming the report said, the incident took place after a vehicle carrying civilians struck with a roadside bomb, leaving two civilians dead.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

Local officials blame Taliban group for the incident as Taliban fighters frequently use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) as the weapon of their choice to target Afghan security forces and officials, which normally lead to civilian casualties.

Kunar is among the restive provinces in eastern Afghanistan, where militants are openly operating in its various districts, khaama press reported.

Afghan security forces have recently launched a military operation in this province to clear the area from the militants.
