250 Insurgents Joined Peace Process In Balkh

MEP: Security officials in Balkh province say up to 250 insurgents have joined the peace process in the province and expressed happiness of providing security of 40 villages in Chamtal district.

Munir Farhad, spokesman for the governor of Balkh told the Middle East Press, around 250 rebels led by Khan Mohammad Cherek that formerly were members of the armed Taliban and had unsecured parts of Chamtal district especially Alborz village, on Saturday have laid down their weapons and joined the peace process in the province.

Meanwhile, the rebels say when they were notified of direct support of intelligence exterior countries of the armed Taliban, decided to quit war with the security forces and joined them.

Khan Mohammad Cherek says “now we all need to stand against the foreign countries for the Defense of Afghanistan and should not let the country to once again lead to disaster.”

Local officials in Balkh province hailed the step in northern Afghanistan and say, now one of the important ways the armed Taliban that the weapons and ammunition they transfer equipment can be blocked.

Chamtal district is one of the important sectors for the armed Taliban, that this group transfer weapons and military equipment from southern to the north.
