3 suicide bombers arrested in Helmand province
KABUL: (MEP) – According to local authorities in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan, at least three suspected suicide bombers were arrested before they manage to target the elections campaign in this province.
Officials in provincial intelligence department – National Directorate of Security (NDS), said the suicide bombers were arrested during military operations in Lashkargah city.
Provincial NDS officials further added that the three suicide bombers were plotting to carry attacks on election campaigns in various areas of Helmand province.
Afghan security forces also seized suicide bombing vests, vehicle-borne improvised explosive (IED) and motorcycles from the detained militants, a local NDS official speaking on the condition of anonymity said.
Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where Taliban militants and insurgents from other militant groups are openly operating in its various districts.
The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.
