32 Prisoners Released From Taliban Jail In Southern Helmand

MEP: Local officials in southern Helmand province say 32 prisoners were freed from a Taliban jail in Nad Ali district.

Omar Zowak, spokesman for the governor of Helmand told the Middle East Press, the prisoners were released in a special operation by security forces from Chah Mirzae area of Nad Ali district.

He said in the operation, which was launched last night, four policemen who were captured in clashes in Helmand province by the Taliban had also been freed.

Helmand governor’s spokesman added that the individuals are handed over to their families.

Armed Taliban have confirmed the operation, but said that these people were drug addicts that have been kept with them.

Helmand province in the south of the country, has witnessed a lot of insecurity and within the past year, armed Taliban reached near its center (Lashkar Gah) city.
