5 members of a family killed by unknown gunmen in Baghlan province
KABUL: (MEP) – Unknown gunmen kill five members of a family in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan late on Friday, local government officials said.
The incidents took place in Central Baghlan district on Friday evening, while the members of the family were on their way to attend a wedding party, and were shot dead by unknown gunmen.
Gawhar Shah Babari, Central Baghlan district chief confirming the report said the incident took place in Chahar Shanba Tapa area, leaving five people dead, including four women a man from the same family.
Mr. Babari further added that two others including a woman and children were injured following the attack.
He said the deceased man was a former Taliban group member, who had recently joined peace process, and one of his brothers is serving with the Afghan Local Police (ALP).
No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
Baghlan is among the relatively peaceful provinces in northern Afghanistan; however, militants from Taliban group and Hezb-e-Islami party have recently increased their insurgency activities in various districts of Baghlan province.
Recently unknown gunmen kidnapped a number of Mines Ministry engineers in Tala Barfak district, and still there is no report regarding the fate of the kidnapped engineers.
