63 prisoners released from Nangarhar Jail

KABUL: (MEP) – At least 63 prisoners were released from a jail in eastern province of Nagarhar, an official said Thursday.

The release was based on a president office decree issued on the occasion of the Eid al-Adha festival, said prison chief, Col. Abdul Wali Hesarak adding the set free prisoners included those politically and criminally convicted people, wakht reported.

He said the prison was facilitated by proper education and capacity building essentials, with currently, a primary school expected to be promoted to high school in the future.

A released individual, Samiullah told he was sentenced in 17 year jail, after the police arrested him to be guilty of stabbing a man into death.

According to him, the main killer had managed to flee the area.

A number of 1,677 people including 25 women are still languishing in the Nangarhar Jail.
