11 cases of HIV positive registered in Kandahar

KABUL: (MEP) – Kandahar Public Health director said Tuesday that 11 HIV positive cases have been recorded in last one year in the province, which is a matter of concern for the health service providers to increase precautionary measures.

Kandahar Public Health director, Dr. Abdul Qayom Pukhla, in a press conference said that the past year around 18,238 were checked for HIV, out of whom 11 persons were found infected by the HIV virus. “Two women were also among the HIV infected persons” he said. However, he did not provide more details how and where these persons were infected with the virus.

While providing more details on annual achievements of the directorate said that over the past one year more than 1.3 million citizens benefited of health services in the province.

He claimed that malaria cases are on the decline comparing to the past year in the province as a result of the precautionary measures taken by the directorate. “Out of 5,765 persons checked for the illness only 91 were found infected with malaria parasites.

He said last year no polio case was recorded in Kandahar province, because the vaccination campaigns were successfully conducted by the related organs in all parts of the province.

He said that 114 tons of expired medicines were also collected from drug stores and torched in the province.

Children nutrition, vaccinations campaigns, child delivery services, surgery operations were other services provided by the health centers to citizens.
