Afghan education officials being frequently murdered
KABUL: (MEP) – According to local authorities in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, unknown gunmen on Monday assassinated district education officer for Chaparhar, Khaama reported.
Head of the provincial media department for Nangahar province, Mohammad Asif Shinwari confirming the report said Mualim Azim was shot dead by unknown gunmen early Monday morning.
No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
This comes as the ministry of education of Afghanistan earlier this month expressed concerns regarding the casualties of education employees and administrators in Afghanistan and said around 100 of them have been killed since the beginning of the year.
A spokesman for the ministry of education of Afghanistan, Amanullah Aiman said that attacks on education officials started earlier in March, which is equivalent to the beginning of the Afghan year and has been doubled recently.
Mr. Aiman further added that the education officials are mostly targeted in cross fire, roadside bombings and target killings. Around 100 education officials have been killed in so far.
He said that militants are looking to create fears and terror among the students, teachers and education officials and administrators through new tactic, which is the assassination of education officials across the country.
