Afghan Intelligence Arrested Haqqani Network Chiefs

KABUL: (Middle East Press) The Haqqani terrorist network’s two senior commanders have been arrested following a military operation by Afghan intelligence – national directorate of security (NDS) operatives.

According to reports, the detained commanders have been identified as Anas Haqqani, the brother of Haqqani network chief, Jalaluddin Haqqani and Hafiz Rashid, the network’s military chief.

The two leaders were reportedly arrested following an operation late Tuesday night.

The national directorate of security (NDS) has not formally commented regarding the imprisonment of the two senior Haqqani network leaders yet.

Haqqani network was formed in the late 1970s by Jalaluddin Haqqani. The group is allied with al-Qaida and the Afghan Taliban and cooperates with other terrorist groups in the country.

The netework is considered the most dangerous militant organization targeting International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Afghan employees in Afghanistan.
