Afghanistan Shares Twenty Five Percent in TAPI Gas Project

KABUL: (MEP) – The Minister of Mines briefed journalists about results of seventeen TAPI project session held in Turkmenistan, BNA reported.

According to Wahidullah Shahrani Minister of Mines, the session attended by Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and India held in Ashgabat, capital of Turkmenistan.

Shahrani added, “Afghanistan with investment of five million US dollars shares twenty five percent in the project and all other parties will share the same percentage.”

Briefing journalists in a news conference, the  Minister of Mines further said, “Afghanistan has signed contract of buying gas and according to the contract, Afghanistan will receive five hundred million cu. m gas during the first ten years, one billion cu. m gas in second decade, while one-half billion cu. m gas in the third decade, adding nearly 9000-12000 police are to be deployed for security of the project form 2014-2017.

Meanwhile, the Asian Development Bank’s representative to Afghanistan while stressing on continuation of the bank’s cooperation with Afghanistan said, “Since 2002, Asian Development Bank has donated nearly 3.2 billion US dollars to Afghanistan and after 2014 till 2016 the bank to assist more than 1.2 million US dollars to the country.
