Australia Apologized To Syria For Joining US Airstrikes In Killing Soldiers

MEP: Australian Department of Defence has officially apologized to the government and people of Syria for it is involvement on Saturday night operation.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Malcolm Turnbull the Australian Prime Minister has admitted Australian warplanes were part of an ill-directed airstrike that went wrong in Syria killing at least 62 Syrian government troops and wounding more than 100.

Mr Turnbull expressed regret for the deaths during the action in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, he also hinted that there were blatant “contradictions” behind Russia’s UN grandstanding on the bungled sorties by US-led coalition countries.

The Australian defence department has explained coalition aircraft were conducting airstrikes in eastern Syria against what was believed to be a Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terror position that the coalition had been tracking for some time.

“Syria faces crisis and attacks from every corner and Australia would never intentionally target the Syrian army and would never support ISIS. Meanwhile, Australia expressed condolences to the families of the victims,” the department added.
