Baghlan Women Still Prevented From Participation In Polls
KABUL: (MEP) – A number of women in northern Baghlan have complained still women of rural areas were not allowed to participate in the elections being held next week.
In a workshop on women participation in polls attended by tens of women from different districts of Baghlan, the women activists expressed concerns over disallowance of women by their men to attend the elections.
The activists, however, strongly called on women to participate in the elections and exercise their right to vote.
“We are seriously concerned that the women of remote districts may not be allowed to participate in polls because of patriarchal society in Afghanistan’s villages,” a female right activist said.
The regional office of election commission in Baghlan promised to make every effort for women’s participation in the Presidential and Provincial Assembly elections set to be held on April 5, 2014.
