The first massive blast was a car bomb that targeted a busy school street during rush hour, Syrian state news agency SANA reported citing local authorities. The blast was followed by two additional explosions allegedly carried out by suicide bombers wearing explosive belts, and targeted the crowds gathered at the site of the tragedy.

So-called Islamic State (IS) said it carried out the attacks, Amaq news agency, which supports the terrorists, reported.

Some sources put the death toll higher.

The blasts have totally damaged at least 60 shops and cars, the AFP news agency reported.

Earlier in Homs, 50 people, mainly civilians, were killed in a double car bombing on Sunday morning, a monitoring group reported.
