First girls’ school opens in Taliban-influenced Andar district
Kabul: (MEP) – After years of war and violence, the girls in the Taliban-influenced Andar district of Ghazni have got the chance to study and attend schools.
Initially about four hundred girls were enrolled as the first-ever girls’ high school opened in the previously most unsafe district of Andar.
During the inauguration ceremony of the school, the district chief of Andar stated the security situation had improved, saying efforts were underway to build schools for girls throughout the district.
“I am sure all the schools for girls of this district will be opened at the beginning of new academic year,” District Chief Muhammad Qasim Disiwal said.
The opening ceremony of girls’ school was followed by huge crowd of people waving the national flag with joy and cheer.
The inhabitants of Andar appreciated the improved security situation and hoped the schools should not be closed once again.
“Previously, when our district was under the control of Taliban, the schools and bazaars were closed. But now with the deployment of local police the security situation has improved,” a local resident said.
