Government donates 150,000 dollars to blast victims
KABUL: (MEP) – The Central government has decided to provide a financial package of around $150,000 to the families of the victims of the foiled suicide blast at the Indian consulate in the Eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, Indian Express reported.
Also sources said Amar Sinha, who was appointed New Delhi’s envoy to Kabul in June, announced this during a visit to Jalalabad — capital of Nangarhar province bordering Pakistan — on Tuesday.
Therefore the assistance will also be used to restore a local mosque, which had been blown apart in the high intensity blast.
While in Jalalabad, the Indian Ambassador called on the Provincial Governor, besides visiting the injured in hospital as well as meeting the kin of the victims.
According to the envoy, the families of the victims would each receive a compensation of $10,000 from the Indian government. Besides, the kin of the Afghan security personnel, who were on duty at the time of the attack, would get $20,000 each.
New Delhi will also give a separate award of $2000 to the Afghan policeman, who gunned down one of the suicide bombers and managed to foil the terrorists’ designs, sources added.
The Indian government will give $20,000 to the Nangrahar provincial government towards the treatment of the 21 persons, who sustained injuries in the terror strike.
And sources said,”India would also provide $10,000 to the provincial administration for carrying out repairs at the damaged mosque.
In the immediate aftermath of the August 3 attack, India had pointed fingers at Pakistan even though New Delhi didn’t directly name the country. The suspicions were mainly centred on the Haqqani Network (HQN), which has close ties with the ISI, and was behind the previous two attacks on the Indian Embassy in Kabul.
