IEC releases preliminary results
KABUL: (MEP) – The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has released the preliminary results and based on the information it is clear that no candidate has gained a majority to stake claim to the Presidential chair.
According to IEC officials 6,892,816 voters cast their votes, out of which 64% were men and 34% women.
Based on the information released earlier this evening, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah is still leading with 44.9%, Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai following with 31.5%, Dr. Zalmay Rasoul at 11.5%, Qubuddin Helal at 2.7%, Mohammad Shafiq Gulagha Sherzai at 1.6 %, Daud Sultanzoy at 0.5% and Hedayat Amin Arsala trailing with 0.2%
The Election Complaint Commission will now review all the complaints and the final result will be released on May 14, 2014.
According to the law, if none of the Presidential candidates get 51% votes, a second round of election would be conducted between the two most successful candidates.
