Karzai asks Kerry to attend the Loya Jirga
KABUL: (MEP) – In order to bring an end to the controversial issues regarding the draft security agreement, President Hamid Karzai has asked the US State Secretary John Kerry either to attend the advisory meeting of the Loya Jirga or to sign the treaty with the new Afghan government.
Kabul witnessed the first day of the advisory Loya Jirga for the security agreement between Kabul and Washington on Thursday, November 21st. both countries have been bargaining at less more than 2 years on this agreement. But it seems that some differences still remain in this document.
A primary difference of opinion in the security agreement between Kabul and Washington has to do with the allowable military operations of America in Afghanistan.
Emal Faizi, presidential spokesman said, “America will clear the military operations in Afghanistan in a letter. But these comments have been rejected by the consultant of President Barack Obama.”
Susan Rice, White House National Security Adviser said, “Such a letter is not written and has not been sent.”
John Kerry promised Hamid Karzai that about the home inspection and America’s military operations, they will provide the written guarantees to the Afghan government, ariana news reported.
Security agreement between Kabul and Washington will specify the conditions associated with the presence of American troops after 2014.
