Kunduz Clashes Killed 20 Civilians

KABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 20 civilians have been killed and 10 others have been wounded following clashes in northern Kunduz province.

According to local officials, clashes between Taliban militants and Afghan security forces began five days ago in the neighborhood of Kunduz city.

Provincial police spokesman, Syed Sarwar Hussaini, said Taliban insurgents launched coordinated attacks on security check points in different parts of Kunduz province but clashes increased during the past 48 hours.

However, Taliban group spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid, said a well-known local police leader, Qadirak was killed along with his two security guards in Se Dokana area of Kunduz city.

Mujahid said the ALP commander Qadirak was a domineering commander and was killed in Taliban fighter’s ambush, and accused the security forces for civilian fatalities.

He said the government forces used heavy weapons to fight Taliban fighters which resulted to civilian losses.
