Moscow Seeking To Remove US From Afghan Peace Talks

MEP: Russian Foreign Minister in a meeting with his Afghan counterpart said that Moscow is trying to plan a conference with the participation of regional states and without the presence of the United States for Afghanistan peace talks.

Sergei Lavrov, on Tuesday evening with Salahuddin Rabbani said that soon the meeting attended by representatives of key countries in the region to review Afghanistan to be held in Moscow.

Lavrov added that Moscow is trying to gather senior positions of Pakistan, China, Iran and India with presence of Afghanistan representative in the middle of February in Moscow.

He stressed that a number of the leaders of these countries have confirmed their presence at the next meeting and the peace talks of Afghanistan is the primary objectives.

The presence of the Taliban in peace talks

However, Russian Foreign Minister emphasized on the Taliban in Afghanistan peace talks, and said that the group should be involved in peace talks.

Lavrov believes that the Taliban presence can be useful for the Afghan peace process as long as the Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terrorist group is expanding.

This is despite the fact that the Moscow meeting of these countries, most of them has good influence over the Taliban as the main opposition of Kabul.
