Most Polling Stations to function on Election Day
KABUL: (MEP) – Officials of Independent Election Commission (IEC) have said, less than 10 percent of the polling centers would be closed due to security issues and the remaining 90 percent would be open across the country, for voters to cast their votes on Election Day.
According to officials, the percentage of polling stations that will remain inoperative is less than the previous election. They also spoke about the preparations being made at polling centers to ensure smooth operations. Separate rooms have been reserved for women voters and women staff would be deployed to manage them.
IEC head Zaiulhaq Amarkhail has also confirmed that these arrangements are in place across the country.
Though they have limited deployable resources for the Presidential and Provincial Elections, the IEC talked about being able to conduct an acceptable and transparent election in the country. Two hundred supervisors have been appointed to monitor and supervise the entire process.
IEC officials have also warned that candidates trying to adopt fraudulent means would face legal proceedings.
Head of IEC security in Ministry of Interior Affairs also talked about the tight security measures that have been adopted for the upcoming Presidential and Provincial Election. He said, “People need to know they are safe to attend the Election because the security departments have ensured all necessary measures are in place for their security.”
The last Election had witnessed 5 million voters attend. This time there has been an addition of 3.5 million new voters thus raising the number of voters to way over the 5 million mark.
However, the number of voters who turn up to cast their vote will only be seen on Election Day- April 5, 2014.
