NDS Chief Returns to Kabul
KABUL: (MEP) – Asadullah Khalid, the head of the National Directorate of Security, returned to Kabul on Friday after receiving months of medical treatment abroad.
Mr. Khalid was targeted by a suicide bomber last year, and was transported out of Afghanistan for treatment. He is said to be in good health now.
A number of analysts have said Mr. Khalid’s return will likely have a positive effect on security operations around the country, including those related to the elections.
“NDS is among the key institutions for maintaining security and Khalid has served as governor of Kandahar and Ghazni and is the Head of NDS,” military analyst Meya Guld Waseeq said. “He has had good relations with people and has even risked his life for their security.”
Residents of Kabul welcomed Khalid’s return to the capital.
“Asadullah is a successful individual and he can play an important role in the elections” one resident named Eshaq said.
“Certainly, the return of the NDS head to Kabul will improve the security situation and also the elections” another resident named Zubai said.
Asadullah Khalid was targeted in a suicide attack on a guest house in Kabul last year and was critically wounded.
