New Criticisms Started On 88 Bagram Prisoners Cases
KABUL: (MEP) – The cases of 88 prisoners in Bagram prison will receive a fresh review, on the recommendation of judicial bodies, the president, and the National Directorate of Security, the Bagram prisoners’ commission said on Monday.
The commission has also urged the US to submit evidence regarding criminal activities of the 88 jailed prisoners, on the basis of Afghan law.
The commission ordered the release of 650 prisoners, and the 88 receiving a review were those deemed “dangerous” by officials.
“Based on the fresh findings and information submitted by the NDS, we will review the cases, if new evidence and reasons weren’t revealed, we will continue acting on our previous decisions,” Abdul Shoko Dadras, a member of the commission on Bagram prisoners said. “The US maintains reservations over 88 of the prisoners and we have discussed the matter with them several times and asked them to submit evidence on the basis of the prevailing laws of Afghanistan and this will help us to act according to that.”
The United States condemned the prisoner release, and the State Department called the inmates dangerous and said that evidence links them to terror activities and killing of civilians.
The Commission On Bagram Prisoners has previously announced that the concerned commission doesn’t recognize evidence that is two years old, but a presidential legal and judicial board has said that criminal cases do not have a time limit.
“The evidence and documents which already exist or existed in the past about the Bagram inmates, the question is that why they didn’t share it, it’s a great mistake and certifies lack of cooperation of international community,” said Nasrullah Estanikzai, chairman of the legal and judicial board. “If documents exist, why don’t they share it?”
The Presidential Legal & Judicial Board has urged that the NDS present evidence on 16 inmates from amongst 72 inmates and their cases have been dispatched to the attorney.
This comes at a time that the Commission On Bagram Prisoners so far has completed the investigations on cases of 760 inmates and more than 650 inmates were released by this commission.
