Nisar emphasizes greater coordination with int’l community in Afghanistan

KABUL: (MEP) – Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan emphasized greater coordination between Pakistan and the international community in the post-2014 scenario in Afghanistan. He was talking to Michael Koch, Special Representative of the German Government on Afghanistan and Pakistan here.

Germany’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Cyrill Nunn was also present during the meeting.

The Minister said that Pakistan is trying to play its role in bringing about some level of sanity in the region.

He asked for a sense of balance, responsibility and clarity from all countries concerned.

He said a lowest common denominator of understanding must be shared among all the major stakeholders in the region, with honesty, candor and transparency.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said Pakistan wants Afghans to handle their own affairs and would be willing to contribute in any way to the cause of peace.

He conveyed the best wishes of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The Minister said the Prime Minister has taken several initiatives for attaining peace in the region.

Koch said that Germany considers 2014 as the year of destiny for Afghanistan, not only because of the drawdown of international forces, but also due to the Presidential elections due in the country in April this year.

He expressed concern over the delay in signing of Bilateral Security Arrangement in Afghanistan.

He expressed the desire of the German government for greater economic cooperation with Pakistan and help for the country in matters of security and counter-terrorism.
