Pakistan Border Fencing, Began Despite Wide Criticism
MEP: When the high-ranking officials in Kabul criticized the barbed wire by Islamabad on the border between the two countries, Pakistan regardless of the issue, started building fences on its border.
Barbed wire and fence on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, began today in Mohmand Agency area.
Qamar Javed Bajvah, chief of staff of the Pakistani army has said it would first be applied in areas that according to Islamabad are “areas with the looming threat”.
According to him, construction of fence and barbed wire started in parts of Bajaur and Mohmand Agency in Pakistan’s tribal areas and the borders with Nangarhar and Kunar provinces.
Pakistan’s Army Chief of Staff said “this is useful for securing the border, adding that fencing would strengthen security and stability of both countries”.
The report comes as the National Unity Government officials, including Abdullah Abdullah, the chief executive of the government on Monday strongly criticized the move at a meeting of the Council of Ministers.
He has said that barbed wire could not be useful to combat terrorism and if the neighboring countries such as Pakistan looking for security in the region, should faithfully carry out the fight against terrorism.
