Runoff Election Security Better Than First Round: MoD

KABUL: (MEP) – Despite strong security challenges to the runoff elections, the Afghan Ministry of Defense (MoD) has promised to provide better security than the first round of polls.

The April 5 Polls for Presidency remained inconclusive as none of the candidates obtained 50+1 percent of votes cast on the Election Day.

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Thursday formally confirmed the runoff for Presidential Election which will be held on June 14 and the results will be announced on July 22.

However, the Afghan security agencies have promised of unfailing security measures, believing the second round of election will be held more peacefully than the first round.

“They will never reach their goal of disrupting our election with the help of their foreign masters,” Major General Afzal Aman said. “We have evaluated enemies’ plans. We will provide better security than the first round.”
