Senate House approves the draft Budget for next year

KABUL: (MEP) – Senators approved the draft Budget for next year beginning from March 21, 2014.

56 % of the development budget is from the transitional projects of the past year, said Chairman of the Senate Finance and Economy.

He also added that the development budget for the coming year is 444 billion Afghanis and this figure represents a 27% increase over the previous year.

According to Muhammad Din Hamdard, Chairman of the Senate Finance and Economy, the political and military situations will have a direct effect on the national budget for the coming year. “Poor management in the past years caused the donor countries to show no interest in funding the development projects.”

Some of the Senators included some projects such as construction of school buildings, construction of streets, budgets for the drug users’ problems, and construction of central and provincial hospitals for the prisoners in the proposed budget plan.

The draft budget put to the vote in the Senate House and with majority of votes it was approved by Senators, Ariana news reported.

276 billion Afghanis of the next year’s budget is allocated to the operating budget and 168 billion Afghanis to the development budget.

Currently, 44 percent of the operating budget is financed from domestic revenue of the country and the rest of the budget is funded by foreign countries’ aid.
