Taliban Hits NATO Fuel Trucks In Afghanistan
KABUL: (MEP) – one police officer is dead after Taliban suicide bombers attacked NATO fuel trucks in Afghanistan near the Pakistani border.
The officer died in a gun battle that followed the attack on December 18 near the Torkham border crossing in Nangarhar Province, a key NATO supply route.
Police say suicide bombers detonated a car at the gate of the parking lot of the NATO outpost.
The blast ignited a fire that destroyed several of the tankers.
Attackers dressed in Afghan Army uniforms then stormed the compound.
All of the attackers were killed, AP reported.
A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident came a day after six NATO troops — believed to be American — were killed in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
