Trump Seals Republican Nomination In US 2016 Vote

MEP: Donald Trump has formally been announced as the Republican nomination Party in the US 2016 presidential election as speakers knocked Democrat Hillary Clinton on day two of the Republican National Convention.

Crossing the threshold of 1,237 votes, the billionaire businessman officially became the Republican party’s nominee for president, as the stage in Cleveland was illuminated with a message proclaiming: “Over the Top”.

His son, Donald Trump Jr., cast the final votes his father needed to win the nomination on the second day of the Republican National Convention at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, on Tuesday.

“It’s my honor to be able to throw Donald Trump over the top in the delegation count tonight,” his son said.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a former prosecutor, held a mock trial for Mrs Clinton as the crowd chanted “lock her up”.

Mr Christie and others criticised Mrs Clinton’s use of a private email account while she was serving as secretary of state.

“It is something I’ll never ever forget,” Trump said on a video feed from New York. “Together we have achieved historic results with the largest vote total in the history of the Republican Party. This is a movement, but we have to go all the way.”

Later, a giant image of of the nominee was beamed into the arena, live via satellite link from Trump Tower in New York City. “I am so proud to be your nominee for president of the United States,” Trump said. “With your vote today, this stage of the presidential process has come to a close.

In the three-minute address, Trump anticipated his big convention speech, rattling through a list of policies such as strengthening the border, “getting rid” of Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terror group, and “restoring law and order”.
