Two Fatal Traffic Accidents In Herat – Kandahar Highway Kill Dozens

MEP: At least 18 people were killed and more than 80 others wounded in two deadly traffic accidents in Kandahar – Herat highway and nearby provinces of Nimroz and Farah, local officials said.

Ajmal Zahid spokesman for Gulistan district of western Farah province told the Middle East Press, the first accident occurred this morning in Tot area of the district in Herat – Kandahar highway.

He said in the accident that arose from the collision of a passenger car with a 304 Tyler, 14 people, including women and children were killed and 45 others were wounded.

According to Zahid, the Tyler had stopped near the Sixth Battalion of the Afghan National Army due to destruction before the incident and the bus driver for high-speed collided with Tyler.

A large number of injured in the incident were taken to hospital are in a coma and the death toll is likely to go up, Mr Zahid added.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Yunus, Secretary of Nimroz governor said in an interview with the Middle East Press, as a result of overturning a passenger bus in Herat – Kandahar highway in Chakhansur District, four people were killed and 36 others injured.

Yunus described the cause of the accident “the high speed of the driver and his lack of control.”

Highway traffic accidents in the country is considered one of the major concerns of passengers and yet a large number of citizens have been killed in these incidents.
