US fails to control poppy cultivation in Afghanistan

KABUL: (MEP) – US has failed to control poppy cultivation in Afghanistan, as its production further went up during the current year, while a comprehensive report of the United Nations on this alarming situation expected to be released soon, Geo News reported on Monday.

Afghan security officials and anti-narcotics experts said that the US has already spent more than $7 billion on the control of poppy cultivation, but the poppy market fast getting a boost with the passage of time, as poppy was cultivated this year on over 0.15 acres of land, the news reported.

UN anti-narcotics panel said that the huge amount obtained from the sale of narcotics was also being used for political purposes taming down the resistance against it.
