IEC urged to declare final results on time
KABUL: (MEP) – The Senate urged the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to declare the final result of the Presidential election as scheduled.
Some of the Senators expressed concern over the security situation prevalent in the country and said if the security situation did not improve, holding of the second round of the Presidential election would not be possible.
A number of the Senators expressed their belief that certain neighboring countries, especially Pakistan, were responsible for the current state of insecurity in Afghanistan.
The final result of the Presidential election is slated to be announced on May 14 and if none of the candidates are able to get a majority of 51 percent of votes, the election would then proceed to the second round.
