Team visits Badakshan to review situation
KABUL: (MEP) – President Hamid Karzai has deployed a team to visit the landslide affected area to review the situation and ensure necessary help and assistance is provided to the victims.
In the wake of this deadly natural disaster that has killed more than 2500 residents of Abi- Barik village in Argo district of Badakhshan Province, the United Nations and the US President, Barak Obama have expressed their grief over the incident.
President Obama said, “The Afghan people are not alone at this time of natural calamity. The US is committed to the welfare of the Afghan people and we are assisting the Afghan Authorities to help and support families affected in this disaster.”
The UN spokesman in Afghanistan said, “Soon our help and assistance will reach the residents of the disaster area and we will provide food, water and shelter for those families who have fled their homes.”
This landslide comes in the wake of a similar disaster experienced in the neighboring province of Takhar, in which 120 families had to evacuate their homes.
